FAQ
Your most frequent questions, answered.
Copyediting. YOUR WORDS MADE PERFECT.
Copyediting reviews your existing draft to reveal and correct content and style errors. We’ll ensure your document is clearly written, uses the correct style and tone, and is grammatically accurate throughout. To do this, we must read every word and make detailed annotations.
Copyediting + Spark. YOUR WORDS, BUT BETTER.
Copyediting + ‘Spark’ reviews your existing draft, scanning for grammatical, spelling, content, style and punctuation errors. We’ll then add our copywriting spin, particularly useful if you want to transform your existing first draft into marketing, sales or SEO documents.
Copywriting. WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING ORIGINAL.
Copywriting is creating original word perfect, keyword rich copy that engages your stakeholders. We’ll take your brief and write remarkable copy specifically geared towards your business, branding and target market.
Proofreading. THE LAST STEP BEFORE PUBLISHING.
Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process. We scan and compare your draft to previous versions to spot text and formatting errors only.
The short answer is yes. Our brief is your plan for success. It’s our initial guide to your project’s crucial details, so if you want value for money it’s important to include as much detail as possible. Remember, if you later add details to your project that weren’t present in your brief, this can cost you extra.
We’re good, but… Sometimes, if your project is cookie-cutter, we can create something remarkable from nothing – because we’ve done something similar before. But the best results always come from a great, detailed brief that clearly tells us what you want to achieve, who you want to target and why they should care about your project.
In a nutshell, SEO Copywriting is web content and social media copy that’s optimised for search engines.
But it’s not as simple as finding a commonly searched keyword and repeating it ad nauseam throughout your web page. In fact, that approach is likely to make your rankings drop super fast.
You have to write to appeal to humans first, but in a way that makes it abundantly clear to search engines what your site’s about.
It’s not rocket science, but there are a few tricks to consider. First, you have to find the right keywords for your site. Then you need to use them in a fluid, non-awkward way that makes reading your web page a delight, not a keyword-stuffed chore.
Finally, you need to make sure your keywords are in exactly the right place, in exactly the right form to grab Google’s attention.
If all that sounds too hard – leave it to us. We’ve been writing SEO copywriting since SEO became a thang. And we know how to do it without breaking the bank.
It’s best to keep your project top of mind.
WE WANT TO GIVE YOU OUR FULL ATTENTION.
We understand you’re busy. That’s why we allow 14 days for you to review our submitted copy and provide feedback and revisions. This is flexible – just let us know your needs and we’ll work in with your timetable if we can.
However, if we haven’t heard back from you for 30 days, we reserve the right to invoice you for the work done. Then, if you need us to do more work, we’ll send you an additional estimate to complete the extra content.
This doesn’t mean we consider the job finished – and we’ll still provide you with your 2 x FREE minor revisions on any content already written. It just means that we’re committed to doing the best possible work for you in a timely manner.
What constitutes a rewrite?
CHANGING YOUR MIND ABOUT THE BRIEF.
If you substantially alter your job from the specifications described in our original quote or add additional important criteria to your final brief (ie. style guides, compliance measures, etc) after we’ve completed the first draft, Well Versed considers this a rewrite.
What constitutes a revision?
TWEAKING YOUR COPY.
All Well Versed Copywriting quotes include two revisions, so we can get your copy just right. A revision is a minor editing or creative tweaking of your copywriting project so that it perfectly matches your needs. It doesn’t include significant rewriting or substantial new material outside your original brief.2 x revisions come free WITH EVERY PROJECT.
Any revisions over and above the two specified in our proposal/quote, or requested after you have signed off/approved final copy are billed at our standard hourly rate.
CAN YOU CHANGE THE PARAMETERS OF YOUR BRIEF?
From time to time you might need extra copywriting during a project, or extra work upon project completion. These often fall outside the scope of our original estimate.
We’ll always try to accommodate reasonable requests for extra work within existing quotes.
However, if you substantially change the parameters of the brief a significant time after we commence work or following the submission of our first draft, we may need to re-quote accordingly. This includes:
- Changes to your original instructions
- Addition of new information or style guides, or
- An alteration of the project’s scope.
Of course, we’ll always ask you to OK any re-quote via email before any such extra work proceeds.
Who holds copyright?
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ‘COPYWRITE.’
’On receipt of your final payment, full copyright for any writing we do passes to you.
We love us a good courtroom thriller…
BUT THAT’S AS FAR AS OUR LEGAL KNOWLEDGE EXTENDS.
Please note: You are responsible for arranging, prior to publication, any necessary legal clearance of writing materials we prepare.
Well Versed writes original copy only. In an age where cutting and pasting from internet sources is rife, we believe it’s the key to creating stand out marketing materials and web content that connects with your target market.
Please don’t ask us to plagiarise.
We don’t allow for face-to-face meeting time in our quotes. Why? As busy freelancers, time is our most valuable asset. It’s the key to meeting your deadlines ahead of time. And we find most of our clients prefer to Zoom, Skype, phone or contact us via email anyway.
But, if you’re the kind of person who prefers to go through the copywriting process face-to-face, or needs multiple work-in-progress meetings, that’s cool, too. Just let us know at the briefing stage so we can build this into our quote. Meetings will be charged at our basic hourly rate.
- All hourly rate projects are calculated in 1 hourly increments only.
- Our payment terms are 14 days unless otherwise negotiated.
- We require a 50% upfront payment on all projects, non-negotiable.
- Conversely, you can choose to pay your entire invoice upfront for a 5% discount off the total (on top of any discounts we offer for large projects).
- Projects under $500 require upfront payment in full.
- Payments overdue after 30 days may attract a 10% late payment fee.
